If you are soul-searching, like the Emotional Sideburns Guy in the picture below, and you happen to be around Quezon City, Sarah’s UP Diliman can lift your spirits up through its home-like comforts and restaurant-like offerings. Sarah’s UP Diliman, an icon to ist students, is a must for having drinks, chows and friendly service.
Sarah’s UP Diliman is located along C.P. Garcia Avenue, right at the opening of Brgy. Krus na Ligas in Diliman Quezon City. This homey bar and resto is a haven for students (mostly from UP) that tightly budgets their measly allowances. Not only it attracts students, this homey bar and resto also caters to loyal patrons who hunt for low-priced food and drinks.
Sarah’s UP Diliman doesn’t have the typical waiters/waitresses to service customers in most ways. In fact, it is a self-served place wherein you buy your own drinks at its unique bar. If you are lazy to get your own drink, then Sarah’s is not for you. Though self-served, they have a few crews that occasionally tend to customer’s needs. One thing, their few crews are friendly and easy to talk to.
Sarah’s serve only local beers on a subsistence-level pricing; catering to the students around the area. Imagining the intellectual sword fighting that UP students go through daily, just a cold beer at a cheap price can easily relieve their stresses out.
Aside from the their specialty sisig and tokwa’t baboy, just right beside is a little station where you can order anything grillable and munch it in Sarah’s. Maong’s Grill offers vast array of pork and chicken innards – the favorite street-food of Filipinos. They also grill pork belly, chicken, milkfish, tilapia and squid for the weak-stomached customers.
We sampled Maong’s Grilled pork belly, Grilled Onion-and-Tomato Stuffed Squid and the their most famous grilled chicken intestine. It was like Man vs. grilled food. With the just a few bucks to spare, we have munched on those delicious monsters along with a spike of Red Horse Beer ….. Heaven!
Aside from the grilled specialties in Maong’s, Sarah’s UP Diliman also serves budget meals such as Silogs and Rice with different viands.
Sarah’s UP Diliman fusions its homey ambiance to a bar -ish feel wherein you’ll be tricked like you’ve just been drinking just right at your home’s doorstep. When I first step afoot on this Diliman icon, I felt it was just a typical house converted into a restaurant and bar to exploit its strategic location. But it was the partnership between its homey ambiance and its budget pricing that mainly contributed to the success of Sarah’s – the winning combination that students look for in a bar.
